What is the best way to clean gold?   To clean gold jewelry that does not contain soft gemstones, you can use cool water containing a bit of mild soap and a soft cloth. Do not use toothpaste or baking soda because they are too abrasive.

What is the best way to clean gems?   Most gemstones should not be soaked or cleaned ultrasonically. Gemstones that are porous (i.e. turquoise, pearls, opals, emeralds, peridot, coral) can be damaged using harsh cleaning solutions. Gentle soap and cool water is usually safe.
